Ninox boobook
A clear, low-frequency, two-note hoot typically rendered as “boo-book”. Each note is a relatively pure, tonal element with energy concentrated around ~300–500 Hz, appearing in the spectrogram as two distinct horizontal bands. The notes are separated by a short interval, with the second note usually of similar or slightly lower pitch than the first, though some variation in pitch and emphasis can occur. The overall structure is simple, regular, and highly characteristic.
A territorial advertising call commonly given by birds from perches at night. In nocturnal recordings, it likely reflects resident birds calling from fixed locations rather than birds in flight or migratory movement.
A highly distinctive and well-documented call that is widely recognised in nocturnal birding contexts. The two-note “boo-book” structure is diagnostic of the species and matches reference recordings closely. The low-frequency tonal pattern and characteristic spacing of the two notes effectively exclude confusion with other species.
Very high confidence. This is a diagnostic and widely recognised call with consistent acoustic structure, and there is effectively no risk of confusion with other species.
None. The two-note “boo-book” call is distinctive and not readily confusable with other species.
