Noisy Pitta

Pitta versicolor

Noisy Pitta TWO-NOTE WHISTLE Strongly supported

Putative nocturnal call type

Classic walk-to-work call, the TWO-NOTE WHISTLE of HANZAB. This is given in flight, as evidenced by sequences where the call begins soft, gets louder as the bird passes over, and then quietens as it continues away. Also possible of course that recordings are picking up birds calling from the ground, hence triangulation with birding records also useful.

Evidence for identification

Perfect match to the well-known advertising call of this species.
